“Wendy Davis Is Pro-Life” and Other Lies That Nobody Would Ever Believe

wendy davisTexas state senator and gubernatorial hopeful Wendy Davis, who became the darling of the abortion lobby after her filibuster of the Texas bill banning abortions after 20 weeks, has declared that she is “pro-life.”

Huh.  Really?

No, not really.

What she said is this:

“I am pro-life.  I care about the life of every child: every child that goes to bed hungry, every child that goes to bed without a proper education, every child that goes to bed without being able to be a part of the Texas dream, every woman and man who worry about their children’s future and their ability to provide for that future. I care about life and I have a record of fighting for people above all else.”

Of course, what she meant is this:

“I’m running for governor here in Texas, so I have to pretend I’m something I’m not because it just won’t do to get up in front of a crowd in a socially conservative state and proclaim that it’s okay to kill people as long as they are really small and inconvenient for you.”

It’s certainly not a new tactic for defenders of atrocities to change the meanings of words in order to hide the reality of the horrors they support, but this is pretty bold for Wendy Davis to just march right out and declare herself the complete opposite of what she is.

I wonder how it would have gone over if some other people had used the Wendy Davis approach…

  1. Miriam says:

She sounds like the former governor of Florida. First, a Republican, second, an Independent, now a Democrat. He is nothing but an oportunist! So is this woman…

  2. Tim says:

She is just a sad individual who loves power and will apparently do anything to get it. We should be praying for her conversion. Wouldn’t it be great if she became Catholic?

  3. Clint Evrard says:

I agree with many of the articles here, but this one is very scathing and trite. Comparing her to Hitler is horrible and you should be ashamed for such a statement. She may actually be pro-life. You have presented nothing on her reasons for the filibuster that she participated in. It is never just black and white. What you are saying is because she participated in a filibuster that she is most definitely pro-abortion, and is lying to hide that fact. I see no reasons presented here on how you could possibly know that or any of her motivations. Also, in the section where you quoted what she “really meant” I would advise more caution. This article is close minded and hateful, and it is this kind of holier than thou attitude that will prevent any kind of positive debate in the Church’s political future. This is a very, sadly modern Catholic, article of pointing fingers and saying, “I’m right, you’re wrong, and I’m better than you.” We are supposed to not only live by the word of the Pope, the authority of the bishops, and the doctrine of the Church, but also by a tradition of philosophical, open minded, and merciful interaction within the Church and the world around us. Many articles here are good, but this one fails miserably at any attempt to be philosophically minded and diplomatic.

    1. Dominic says:

So… to whom would YOU compare someone who advocated the extermination of hundreds of thousands of politically-vulnerable human beings in the name of creating a cost-effective society?

This isn’t “I’m right, you’re wrong so you’re a bad person”. This is “You advocate the genocide of innocents, so you’re a bad person”.

    2. Todd Bushee says:

No one compared her to Hitler and your kumbaya approach doesn’t work. Evil must be confronted and enemies of Christ and his Church have to be called out. You can’t pretend we don’t know anything about anyone when we can clearly observe and understand their words and actions. You appear to be placing yourself in real danger of being part of the dictatorship of relativism if you lack the intestinal fortitude to oppose it…

  4. Kristen Simpson says:

I have to agree with Andrew on this. As much as I want to make a joke of Davis’s political statements, we have to remember that our purpose as a Catholic is to make our faith universal and we can’t appeal to and evangelize the world while poking fun at them. Provide evidence (not emotion) that supports Catholicism.

  5. Notice she is now trying to redefine the term. Win the battle of words; win the war. Her opponent needs to call her on this and make it a point this out-and-out dishonesty disqualifies her as a serious contender for the office.

  6. Andrew says:

Be careful what you display as humor because if it can’t be shown to the opposing views without making them irrate then it won’t assist us in evangelizing the world.
It may be funny but I can’t post this because it doesn’t connect to evidence and in the end brings up a separate issue that gets people riled up.
