There’s a cool new iPhone app from our friends at Our Sunday Visitor. (Just 99 cents).
The App (currently only available for iPhone) is perfect for expecting parents who are looking for a saint’s name for their child. (Reminder: CV has an App, too.)
The OSV editors pulled the information from the App from their excellent book The Dictionary of Patron Saints’ Names – which my wife and I consulted when we named Anne, Margaret, Charles and J. Robert.
With “Cinco de Mercero” due during Easter week, my wife and I now this nifty App to check for saints’ names.
And, Stephen will be happy to hear: we’re definitely considering the name Mary. (That’s if we’re having a girl. We never find out until the birth.)
But like most Catholic parents, we pray quite a bit about what we shall give our child. And that’s proper.
As the editors note in the introduction to the App, choosing a name for a baby is fun, “but take time to do it right.”
They quote the Catechism, which states:
“God calls each one by name. Everyone’s name is sacred. The name is the icon of the person. It demands respect as a sign of the dignity of the one who bears it.” (CCC 2158).
Something to remember every time we got involved in an online discussion.
