Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn is warning Catholics in his diocese that the threat to religious freedom in this country is real, and our children will be the ones to suffer if we fail to be vigilant.
While rightly cautioning against any attempts to equate the situation in America with the violent persecutions in other parts of the world where Christians are actually being killed, Bishop DiMarzio nonetheless reminds us that here in our country there is a “much more subtle erosion of these freedoms.”
Bishop DiMarzio also gives a moving tribute to the American flag and to the First Amendment, and calls on all of the parishes in his diocese to participate in the upcoming Fortnight for Freedom, from June 21 to July 4.
