End the Obamacare tax on religion!

The HHS mandate is really a tax.

And the IRS will levy this tax on every Catholic school, hospital, and soup kitchen in the United States.

How much is this Obamacare tax?

It’s $100 per day, per employee. That’s $36,500 annually — for every employee. There isn’t a single Catholic school anywhere in America that can afford this massive tax.

Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-WI, just authored a new bill to remedy this. It’s called the Religious Freedom Tax Repeal Act or H.R. 6097.

Call your Representative today at 202-224-3121.

Urge them to co-sponsor the Sensenbrenner bill,  which will stop the tax on religious freedom!

Why is it so urgent for Catholics to support this bill and stop the notorious HHS tax on religious freedom?

Because as Justice John Marshall once famously said: “The power to tax involves the power to destroy.”

And a $36,500 yearly tax on every employee is a recipe for destroying our cherished Catholic institutions. Now that the Supreme Court gave Obamacare a pass, religious schools and hospitals are counting on you to fight for their freedom.

Pick up the phone. And please call today.

I am CONTINUALLY amazed that this issue is still “defined” as a CATHOLIC issue! This applies to ALL RELIGIONS! Not just about contraception issues, but ANY case where the HHS decided to write regulations that infringe on Religious Faith and Principles!
ALL Judeo-Christian Faiths need to be “Holding Hands” on this!!

A $36,500 yearly tax on every employee? Been reading Goebbels again, I see. If you are going to tell a lie, tell a BIG lie.

It always pays to do a little research. Here is the link to the Congressional Research Service’s (CRS) report that works for Congress on a nonpartisan basis. They clearly state the $100/day tax (and yes they state it as a tax). Check out the last and only paragraph on page 8:

No matter if it is called a tax, a fine, a penalty, or an assessment; It is a violation of the 1st Amendment! Do not think the Supreme Court is always right because a previous Supreme Court ruled, in the Dred Scott decision, that people of color were property! That was overturned, this ‘mandate’ shall be overturned!

  4. Michael Blissenbach says:

This legislation is a good start, but law professor Gerard Bradley from the University of Notre Dame says it’s insufficient because it doesn’t resolve the underlying problem of the HHS Mandate itself (http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news/republicans-introduce-bill-to-repeal-tax-on-religious-employers-that-resist/). I agree with Professor Bradley. All this bill does is remove the penalties. The HSS Mandate would still be on the books and there would be nothing to stop the HHS Secretary from implementing additional mandates in the future that infringe on the freedom of Catholics and the Church. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act is the only legislative proposal on the table that would effectively do what needs to be done to safeguard our religious freedom. I’ll encourage my Congressman to vote for this bill, but it’s not sufficient to protect the freedom of Catholics and the Church.
