“If you’ve got a Church, you didn’t build that.”

Last night at the Al Smith dinner, Mitt Romney showed a keen sense of humor with an edge. As he roasted President Obama, he got in some classic digs that were as much true as they were funny.

I was actually hoping the president would bring Joe Biden along this evening, because he’ll laugh at anything.

Among the zingers, he delighted the largely Catholic audience with a reference to St. Peter:

Your kind hospitality here tonight gives me a chance to convey my deep and long held respect for the Catholic church. I have special admiration for the Apostle St. Peter, to whom it is said, “Upon this rock, I will build my church.” The story is all the more inspiring when you consider that he had so many skeptics and scoffers at the time who were heard to say, “If you’ve got a church, you didn’t build that.”

His delivery was fantastic, and you could clearly see and hear President Obama laughing harder than anyone.

I never thought I’d laugh out loud – several times – at anything Romney had to say, but I did. I recommend watching the entire video.

    Dear Julie T.
Well, it seems Rich now has adopted other names. Now he is St. Theresa, St. Louis de Montfort and even Lucy, the seer of Fatima. The troll covers his vitriol with the mantel of holiness these days and I even suspect he might be a Franciscan priest. It’s amazing!

I noticed that while Romney made a few self-deprecating jokes, most of his jokes were at the President’s expense. Obama took the opposite tack. He lobbed a few jokes at Romney, but mainly poked fun at himself. Any thoughts on the difference in approach?

    • The TRUTH Hurts

Romney had much more ammunition because of the failure Obama has been for our country.

Because little men make fun of others. Good people make fun of themselves.

I agree- Biden is a very little man!

This is interesting… I go to the CV home page and watch the banners slide across my screen. One is an endorsement of Mitt Romney. The very next one takes me to a video about subsidiarity on a page which includes a “donate” link to make a tax deductible donation. You guys are really blurring the lines here. You better watch your step.

      “You better watch your step.”
Is this a threat? I bet CV is scared to death!
