Catholic Vote needs to do a marriage video now more than ever before due to the recent ruling in CA...Catholicvote.org's videos are so clever and inspiring in a respectful manner that I think they could do a wonderful job creating a marriage video. I check this website regularly to see if there are new videos...hope to see a marriage one soon.

The other videos on this site are very powerful and I believe that the people who made those videos can come up with another video just as good as one about defining marriage as between a man and a woman. I'm not sure what I think about all the issues but the Obama video especially made me think about things. Do the same kind of video for the marriage issue please.

I haven't watched any of the videos because I have listened to Catholic public radio in my area and I can't believe what I am hearing. Nothing but hate in the name of life. Surely God must be troubled by what is being done in has name.

Judgenot, Really? You haven't watched any of the CatholicVote videos? Don't throw the baby out w/ the bathwater! How can your view be balanced if you only look at the most extreme our movement has to offer? And, yes, I think there are many things we humans do that trouble God but there is also great joy and hope in this world of ours. "Never let anything so fill you with pain or sorrow so as to make you forget the joy of Christ Risen." - Mother Teresa

I would like to see more of marriage between a man and a woman highly favoured and admired. It is a relationship that God has valued and intended.

I love this idea if it could be done right. What would be the main point? I know my own main reason for being against homosexual marriage legally is that it suffers from the slippery slope problem - if two women, why not two sisters who love each other? Why not a mother and her daughter? Why not a mother and her daughters? Marriage should be about supporting couples in the socially important and financially demanding task of procreation, not about legal recognition of love. And obviously two men or two women are in a different realm, biologically, when it comes to procreation. If legal marriage is about love, why are there changes to the tax code for married couples? And why can't non-romantic loves marry (e.g., sisters, father and daughter, etc.)? I know of no argument for homosexual marraige that doesn't open the doors for other inappropriate marriages.

The main reason why Government can only put their stamp of approval on traditional marriage, is because of universality: All humans come from the union of man with women. ALL. Accordingly, this is the only arrangement that is universally true for all humankind. Once the government allows alternative unions to become 'marriage' as well, then so too can other alternative arrangements. Once marriage means anything - marriage means nothing. Gay folks, while neither superior nor inferior, have a special need. That special need is to love a member of their own sex. Therefore, what they ask for is a special interest. A special right. And providing special rights to any special interest groups sets a powerful precedent which ultimately leads to utter chaos. If an individual is faced with a special circumstance, it is up to that individual to adapt to his or her situation - it is not their right or privilege to alter thousands upon thousands of years of tradition in order to grant special entitlements to a comparatively tiny minority. Further, as far as our side is concerned - we must work harder to repair the damage we've done to traditional marriage. Poor blacks, for one example, have dispensed with marriage entirely! Hollywood depicts the nuclear family as a nest of pathology and dysfunction. The divorce rate is rising and more and more children come from broken homes. The results of moral relativism in our culture is crystal clear: the annihilation of the Family.

If you redefine marriage then what do you call a "union" which naturally produces offspring?

By timlovesann on 2009-07-15T21:10

I say the movement for gay "marriage" shouldn't even be mentioned in the video. I think the video should emphasize why marriage is good. Obviously, procreation would be highlighted as it is, as a matter of principle, the center piece of marriage. For the sake of marriage, the video should not only shed a light on the issue of "gay marriage", but it should universally respond to all the ills that plague marriage today like divorce, the decline of the number of people getting married, the negative ideas on marriage and so on. The best way is to show the good of marriage. Fight the darkness with light!

I think a video showing the joy and pain of traditional marriage and family would be very inspiring if done right. When showing the pain and difficulty show how the families stay together and help each other, etc. Show a diverse range of styles, ethnic groups, ages, family sizes, etc. Try to make it look more like real life than some Hallmark commercial or one of the Mormon commercials where everyone is white and smiling unnaturally all the time! Maybe include in one video some facts/statistics about how much better children do when they live with both parents in a stable marriage, facts about how married people are happier, healthier, etc if they can be found. Just some thoughts!
