I thought the video was great. You definitely made a very good point one that I didn't see, but this is why the video should be more CLEAR on what message it is trying to convey...that we MUST be PRO-LIFE...100%! No Contraception, No same-sex-marriages, no embryonic stem research, no cloning, no sterilization, no IVF....no exceptions, No compromises, NOT even a teeny, weeny bit...which is ONLY taught in the CATHOLIC CHURCH, for anywhere else are FALSE TEACHINGS which can lead our soul to HELL!
By Joyceawilliams on 2009-05-12T01:28
Powerful video indeed.
@ladyrose Though not adopted at birth, Tolkein was indeed sent to live at an oratory under the guardianship of a priest, essentially as an adopted son after his mother died at age 12. His father had died when he was 3.
Also @dinasiano, Eleanor Roosevelt was raised by her maternal grandmother after her mother died at age 10, and her father had died earlier of alcoholism.

joycewilliams is absolutely correct and there is no need to repeat what she has already posted. What is Catholic about this video? Anything less will result in confusion, compromise and chaos.

The man and his song Imagine is a total turn off for me. Didn't you pay attention to the lyrics, at all? The first time I heard it, he sang "Imagine there's no heaven, no religion, nothing to die for." That much is so anti-Christian, it's chilling.
By jeannie on 2009-05-12T21:19
This video is totally disingenuous, and frankly (as one who was adopted) insulting. If you want to make the argument "choose life over abortion," that's fine, but at least use people who were adopted in the classical sense, i.e. adopted as an infant because their birth-parents chose life -- NOT because they were "adopted" by a step-parent, or had to live with a relative at some point because their parents became sick or died. Only 5 of the persons presented in this video (Dave Thomas, Faith Hill, Sarah Maclachlan, DMC and Steve Jobs) meet that criteria. With the rest, well it was not a matter of "choosing life over abortion." The most embarrassing adoption story presented in this video was that of Babe Ruth: Raised by both parents until he was a teen, due to family circumstances he was placed in an orphanage. At the age of 19, Babe was discovered by a baseball scout

I think this is beautiful. I like that many of the people were not 'classically adopted'. Most of these people were conceived pre 1973. Their mothers did not have the liberal abortion laws we do now and they did not abort their children even though many were born in less than ideal circumstances. I think the video refutes the pro-choice arguments of 'quality of life' and 'every child a wanted child'. Each and every child is a precious image of the Author of life no matter who they become. I think this video asks the question, 'who are we missing today, post -1973?'.
By Julietmarie on 2009-05-13T16:02
Maybe we should see the message as something bigger than -but inclusive of- choosing 'adoption over abortion'. The fact that people like Babe Ruth were adopted (taken in by the Church in his case) only amplifies the message! It shows that people deserve to be loved at every stage of life despite their circumstances and grim outlooks for their future. It shows that human love can change our futures for the better -it gives hope. Why is this important to the abortion debate? Because it is often said that abortion is justified because of the stark world we live in and that the child is not wanted. If this were true couldn't we say the same thing for Babe Ruth or others in the video who were not wanted or lost their parents? We would never consider killing a child already born when their future seems full of despair, so why does our culture consider this exact line of reasoning with unborn children? The message in the video actually provides a strong case not only against abortion but also against things like euthanasia. Why? Because no matter if you're unborn, someone like Babe Ruth, or a terminally ill person, you're life can be saved when someone goes out of their way to save you by their love and care. We need to all start thinking bigger and converting peoples hearts -like this video is trying to do- instead of fighting and advancing some 'movement'. This is not a movement we're talking about- it's the beauty, truth, and goodness of all human life and winning over the heart's of those who need that message!

Did the creators of this video ever actually listen to the lyrics of Lenon's song Imagine? How utterly counterproductive to put that song on an otherwise important, intelligent and well-intended message. John Lenon and his wife Yoko were drugged-out hate mongers thinly disguised as peaceniks. He was an atheist who "imagines" how wonderful the world would be without religion or the silly notion of God. He was also, by-the-way, anti-american never having had one positive word to say about the culture that allowed him to amass tremendous wealth while spewing disdain for everything America stands for. If John Lenon were alive today there is little doubt that he would be adamantly in support of abortion.
By sammyloutx on 2009-05-14T13:51
Sammy: actually the song in the video is not Imagine by john lennon

Great video! I think this shows the value of all human life. Whether or not adopted at birth or later on, the point remains that all of these people have contributed something noteworthy to American culture. We need to continue to focus on promoting a culture of life in this country and remind people that every life is valuable. I hope this will cause more people to stop and think about it.

By SissyWillis on 2009-05-20T00:06
What an inspiring video! In response to the post above from: yourebeingmislead on 05/17/09, John Lennon's life could have turned out so very different. Yes, his mother died a tragic death, and even though his adoptive parent was his Aunt, a heart and mind can suffer so much from a loss such as his. He obviously had an Aunt/Adoptive parent who loved him, and gave him what he needed to be able to live a life that led him to fulfillment and with purpose despite losing his mother. I work in Special Education and see every day, tragedy in young lives, including the loss of a parent or those that are or have suffered abuse or neglect. That one person, has the power to make such an impact in anyone's life, is powerful and fulfilling and truly illustrative of God's love!
By cjPA126 on 2009-05-20T00:33
This is a great video! Thank you and congratulations, it is absolutely beautiful, intriguing and different. Very creative. I loved it. Since you used such a wide and varied group of famous and successful people, it is bound to touch many and it will give then food for thought. It is definitively different from the standard pro-life message because it does not mention abortion directly, instead it focuses on the positive fact of adoption, on the positive fact that life, if given a chance, can blossom into so many possibilities. We need to encourage people to see any pregnancy as a miracle and each child as a blessing. Because of this different approach, your video is less “in your face” and I congratulate you for that. One more thing: there is a certain irony in the fact that John Lennon’s song was so anti-religion and here he is now (not the song but him) part of a most pro-life, pro-family Catholic video. Isn’t it funny? But he was pro-peace and he definitely was all about being different, innovative and creative! And that is exactly what your video does: it is a quick, elegant and effective reminder that every life allowed to grow is a chance for love and an opportunity for joy. And that is a true recipe for peace!
I liked your video so much that I put a link to it on my own French American Catholic blog:
Le blog de la Bergerie http://www.leblogdelabergerie.com/index.htm
By micheleszek on 2009-05-21T01:52
I like the video because it promotes adoption. I don't think you need to link adoption to abortion directly. If a child is put up for adoption, it hasn't been aborted. Promoting adoption is a positive "pro-life" message all on its own.

I thought the video was great. However, as I was sharing it with my children, I learned that Eleanor Roosevelt was not adopted and someone else in these comments said that one of the other featured people was also not adopted. Would someone please explain this. Maybe I am missing the meaning of the video? If so, please fill me in. If not, then this is both a disappointment and an embarrasment.

By Catholicgagirl on 2009-05-11T18:35 Thank You for commenting, sounds as though you are trying to be a TRUE PRACTICING CATHOLIC and maybe a traditional one at that? By faithmdvu on 2009-05-11T23:01 You definitely made a very good point one that I didn't see, but this is why the video should be more CLEAR on what message it is trying to convey...that we MUST be PRO-LIFE...100%!

What the pro-life movement and for that matter all the pressing moral issues today need is the fearless, bold articulation of the Truths of the Faith.

This video is beautifully made. Unfortunetly because not all of the people featured are traditionally adopted, adoption over abortion. The video will be dismissed as a marketing ploy. We, Catholics, must speak the truth, always, in season and out of season. It is only when we speak the truth will hearts be changed

Beatiful video. I worry that people won't understand that it's more about abortion than adoption. It'll certainly get their attention though ^_^

Why not put an ordinary person in the video? Most of us adopted folks are valuable members of society and most of us are not famous.

Sammy: actually the song in the video is not Imagine by john lennon

John Lennon was adopted by his aunt when he was 14 after his mother was struck by a car. How appalling that you would include him in your propaganda.

I liked your video so much that I put a link to it on my own French American Catholic blog: Le blog de la Bergerie http://www.leblogdelabergerie.com/index.htm
By micheleszek on 2009-05-21T01:52
I like the video because it promotes adoption. I don't think you need to link adoption to abortion directly. If a child is put up for adoption, it hasn't been aborted. Promoting adoption is a positive "pro-life" message all on its own.

This was awesome! The theme, that an adoptee could be anyone - liberal (Lennon), conservative (Ms Reagon), black, white, well know, or unknown, BUT ALIVE, really hits the heart and the tearducks. Thank you SOoo much! Love to you all...
