O Come, O Come Darth Maul Santa Claus

I like Legos.  When I was a kid, I loved playing with Legos.  But this is…okay, honestly I have no idea what this is.  Behold, the LEGO 2012 Star Wars Advent Calendar:

I know what you’re thinking – fun, charming, and just the perfect thing for Advent.  The kids will not only love playing with it, they will love you for buying it for them.  Besides, who better to teach the little ones about the liturgical and spiritual significance of Advent than a hellish fusion of sith lord, Jolly Old Saint Nick, and Little Red Riding Hood?

Interested in a career at LEGO?  How much acid can you do it one eight-hour shift?

May the force be with you this Holiday Season.

I bought one of these last year, when Yoda was Santa (so cute!). Each compartment has a minifigure or a tiny vehicle to assemble. We did it alongside our regular advent calendar, just for the fun of it. Darth Maul is creepy, so we’ll pass this year, but we sure enjoyed it last year without the creep factor.

John, I see your example as an expression of the secularization of Christmas. My wife and I go out of our way to get Christmas cards with a Christian message to emphasized what has been de-emphasized, the Christmas message. We usually send cards with the Nativity Scene in it and make it clear we wish people a Merry Christmas, at least until that greeting is oulawed in politically correct society.

  3. I'm Not Real says:

Well, the Star Wars story is just about as real as the Jesus story.

Well, since you’re not real you shouldn’t talk…

Well. At least you’re not calling yourself Debra and claiming to be Christian as you have done previously on this site.

    3. I’m gonna remain skeptical about your claim that the people from Star Wars exist until you can show me the far, far away galaxy that they are supposedly from. If it was a long, long time ago, maybe the light from their galaxy that is currently reaching us will show some of those epic space battles.
