Photo (& VIDEO!) of the “Holy Goalie”

I’ve written before that I think Bishop Thomas Paprocki is a rockstar. Here’s one of the reasons why:

A charity hockey game with Bishop Thomas Paprocki will be played at 7 p.m. Monday at Nelson Center.

The teams will be comprised of adult players from the Springfield area, and all proceeds from the game will go to Catholic Charities.

Paprocki, known as the “Holy Goalie,’’ will alternate playing in goal for each team. (State Journal-Register)

I’d hate to face-off with a bishop!

UPDATE: The Diocese of Springfield Facebook page has some video clips of the game!

You know, it would only take a small strip of white hockey tape to turn that neck guard into a clerical-collar neck guard. Could be useful for a little extra witness to his vocation — and maybe for a little extra intimidation to those who fire 90+ mph slapshots at His Excellency . . .

In other far more interesting Bishop news, two seemingly solid Bishop appointments in the last 24 hours. Fr. John Brungardt was named Bishop-Elect of Dodge City, Kansas. And Salinas Bishop, Bishop Paul Coakley was named Archbishop of Oklahoma City.

The Bishops in the Midwest are becoming really really solid and I think there are going to be alot of good things happening in the Church in that region.

I think you have a little mix-up in the names. Olmstead is sweet, but Springfield in Illinois has a pretty cool leader too. Just a note.
