Pope Francis Urges Bishops to Practice “Eucharistic Coherence”

John-Henry Westen of LifeSiteNews notes that Pope Francis has recently urged Argentinian bishops to follow the Aparecida Document as “guidelines we need for this time in history”. The document, among other things, says:

“…We should commit ourselves to ‘eucharistic coherence’, that is, we should be conscious that people cannot receive holy communion and at the same time act or speak against the commandments, in particular when abortion, euthanasia, and other serious crimes against life and family are facilitated.  This responsibility applies particularly to legislators, governors, and health professionals.”

“Eucharistic coherence.” I like that phrase.

Some large outlets like Breitbart have picked up on this story so I continue to see it popping up on friends’ news feeds. The connection is not as strong as Breitbart and some folks wants to make it, but the story does reinforce something we all knew: the pope is Catholic when it comes to Communion and pro-abortion politicians.

John Boyle- They excommunicate themselves by their beliefs. They eat and drink condemnation upon themselves every time they receive the Eucharist in mortal sin. My guess is Pope Francis spoke to them privately, and it was their choice to receive publicly.

By their actions ye shall know them. Francis had a chance to deny the eucharist to the argentine murderers and did not do so…what is the problem now…guilty conscience?

    1. Antonio A. Badilla says:

Stephen, will you be kind enough to tell us who the “Argentinian murders” were that Pope Francis gave Holy Communion in his cathedral in Buenos Aires?

  4. Anne Whipple says:

I pray the Pope will send the same letter to the USCCB! We would then see which Bishops are TRULY Catholic!

  5. Rosario says:

To be considered Catholic, you must be consistent in your beliefs

  6. John Boyle says:

He should of denied Pelosi and Biden if he wanted to make a point….. I am glad to hear it but lets pray his words come with back bone and not just symbolism over substance?

    1. Irene Morris says:

That’s the first thing that came to my mind too!!

    2. Antonio A. Badilla says:

To be fair to the Pope, do you honestly think he knows who Pelosi and Biden are? He did not give those two apostates Holy Communion. They received it from a Roman priest who had no clue who they were. Perhaps you should inform yourself better before making judgments about our Holy Father.
