FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mass. Legislators Must Vote On Marriage Amendment
BOSTON, Mass. - On Tuesday, eight states voted on the
definition of marriage.
Likewise, a record number of Massachusetts citizens (170,000)
signed the petition and followed the stringent amendment process to ensure that the people in
this state have their opportunity to determine the definition of marriage -- not the courts.
Larry Cirignano, executive director of Catholic Citizenship called on Beacon
Hill to hold an up or down vote on the Marriage Amendment put forth by the VoteOnMarriage.org coalition.
Mr. Cirignano released the following statement:
"Senator Travaglini has indicated he intends to see that legislators fulfill their responsibility
to see the Marriage Amendment come to a vote on Thursday. The people have voiced their opinion and I know many calls and
e-mails to the State House have echoed that sentiment.
We're confident that as long as this issue sees a fair up or down vote, we will move the
process forward towards a 2008 ballot vote. The citizens of this state deserve nothing less.
Let the people vote!"
Despite spending over $1 million, activists who support same sex marriage defeated only
one incumbent (Sue Pope). All other incumbents were either unopposed or won reelection.
Catholic Citizenship is a member of the VoteOnMarriage.org Committee.
