Pro-Life House Takes on Abortion and Conscience Rights

The new pro-life House of Representatives has scheduled two hearings next week on bills that will make sure the federal government stays out of the abortion business and protects the conscience of pro-life health care providers.

On Tuesday February 8 at 4 pm, the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on the Constitution will have a hearing on H.R. 3, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.”  (This is the bill that no longer contains controversial language about “forcible” rape, though its language on that issue does not change the fact that the Hyde Amendment has never included federal funding for abortions when pregnancy occurred by consensual intercourse by underage teens.)

HR 3 is an extremely needed act to stop the increasing push to involve the federal government in abortion and abortion funding.  Republican Committee Members include Representatives Franks, Pence, Chabot, Forbes, King and Jordan.  Democratic Committee Members include Reps. Nadler, Quigley, Conyers, and B. Scott.  Pro-lifers testifying will include Richard Doerflinger with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Cathy Ruse with the Family Research Council.  The hearing announcement is here

Then on Wednesday February 9 at 1 pm, the House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Health will have a hearing on the “Protect Life Act.”  This bill will be supported in testimony by prolifers Helen Alvere of George Mason University, and Douglas Johnson with National Right to Life.  Republican Committee Members include Reps. Pitts, Burgess, Whitfield, Shimkus, Rogers, Myrick, Blackburn, Gingrey, Latta, McMorris Rodgers, Lance, Cassidy, Guthrie, Barton, and Upton.  Democratic Committee Members include Pallone, Dingell, Towns, Engel, Capps, Schakowsky, Gonzalez, Baldwin, Ross, Weiner and Waxman.  The hearing announcement is here

Both bills deserve your support and your encouragement to congress members.
