Pro-Life NFL Player Declines Invitation to White House

birk2NFL champion Matt Birk, who played center for the Baltimore Ravens last year during their recent Super Bowl season, skipped the team’s visit with President Obama at the White House, a traditional trip for the NFL’s most recent champions.

Birk, who retired at the end of the season and describes himself as a pro-life Catholic, didn’t hold back about why he decided to skip the visit with Obama.  From the story at the Washington Examiner:

“I have great respect for the office of the presidency but about five or six weeks ago, our president made a comment in a speech and he said, ‘God bless Planned Parenthood,’” Birk, a former Minnesota Viking, told a local Minnesota sports blog.   “I’m very confused by [Obama's] statement,” he explained. “”For God to bless a place where they’re ending 330,000 lives a year? I just chose not to attend.”

Amen, brother.  Turns out God wasn’t the only one who found the irony in Obama’s command that he bless Planned Parenthood.

Good for Matt Birk for his public defense of life.

Waking the sleeping giant….Press ON! Mr. Obama not only defends abortion but believes that a baby born alive, that escaped an intended abortion, can still be killed…and he still calls it an abortion. Really? What are we coming to? He is a disgrace to our country’s values, to Science, nature, God…who clearly support that life begins at conception. Deception is the defense of the liberals…if we support this in any way, the death of these children are on our hands. God forgive us.

God bless Matt Birk. A man of integrity, who walks the walk and talks the talk. Matt participated in the local March for Life and was a guest speaker. We need more heroes like Matt Birk.

He had better be cautious where he sits today… what diner, what movie house, on a train or a plane. they are everywhere. Maybe even a relative or a neighbor could be scrutinized for their beliefs. Scandal Lesson: Reject Politicians Who Reject the Right to Life. CV has always painted this president with a broad brush. Cut some slack, please.

    1. Peter says:

How much slack should we cut for Mr. Obama? If Obama is anything regarding this issue, it’s consistent.

    2. Maryellen Schroeder says:

Mr. Birk took a specific action against a specific statement by this president. It’s hardly a case of “broad brush”. As for “he had better be cautious where he sits today….” Are you threatening Mr. Birk, or are you implying (and perhaps rightly so) that we no longer live in a land where one can actually have freedom to follow one’s beliefs? Is that a comment upon the current administration or upon trends in general? In any case, one who stands up for one’s beliefs in fair weather is a good thing, but one who stands up for one’s beliefs despite the possibility of adversity because of it is doing what Jesus called us to do in the Beatitudes.
      God Bless Matt Birk!

God bless you Matt. I am a Pittsburgh Steeler Fanatic but I want to commend you on your stand. I wish we could get more athletics to make a stand also.
