Timothy Cardinal Dolan!

That’s right, Obama and Sebelius, that guy with the funny hat and big smile you’ve been messing with doesn’t wear magenta anymore. Now it’s red.

Archbishop of New York Timothy Dolan is awesome, but add on Timothy Cardinal Dolan, cardinal-priest of Nostra Signora di Guadalupe a Monte Mario, plus the fact that he’s one of the most gregarious, joy-filled, down-to-earth prelates you’ve ever met and you’ve got a force of nature. He’s too humble to say so, so I’ll say it for him.

Now he’s a prince of the world’s oldest and most stable organization. He’s more directly connected to the most consistent and unshakable single institution on earth: the papacy. We’ve had 44 presidents of the United States, but only 15 popes in that same time. And 247 prior to that.

In short, the powers of our government may think they have the upper hand, but history is dotted with the failed projects to destroy the Church, while she stands erect and immovable, calling the world to holiness.

Oh, and did you note which titular see Benedict gave him? Nostra Signora di Guadalupe, or Our Lady of Guadalupe, the church dedicated to the Patroness of the Americas? Accidental? I doubt it.

I do love being Catholic in this country at this juncture.
