Over at the Gregorian Institute at Benedictine College, Kansas, we have posted the new American Catholic Hall of Fame entry.
In honor of the upcoming Super Bowl, whose Vince Lombardi Trophy is named for a devout Catholic, we asked Catholic leaders to vote for the greatest Catholic sports figures of all time.
“In the past, we have gathered votes for great intellectuals and great bishops,” quipped Benedictine College President Stephen D. Minnis. “But none of that started as many arguments as the great sports figures.”
We finally settled on a list that includes all-time greats, great underdog stories, and a few solid Catholic family men.
The idea is to celebrate and promote Catholic identity in public life. The message: There is no reason to hide your Catholic faith to succeed. Click here to see it.
