JERUSALEM IS THE CAPITAL  President Trump announced that the U.S embassy would move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. “It is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” he said. Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama had all pledged the same action, but never followed through. In fact, Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, calling for this to happen.  http://cvote.it/2nD3QUY

WHY NOW?  The moving of the embassy sends a signal to the Palestinians to abandon their all-or-nothing approach to negotiating. “The Palestinians have learned that by saying ‘no’ they can always get something better next time,” said Eugene Kontorovich, head of international law at the Kohelet Policy Forum in Jerusalem said. “They have to learn that if they say no, next time they won’t get the same offer.” http://cvote.it/2nzXEgd

DEMS TURN ON FRANKEN  Over 30 Democrat senators called on Sen. Al Franken, a Minnesota Democrat, to resign his Senate seat after a new allegation of sexual harassment. Franken called the latest charge “preposterous.” He is planning on an announcement about his future later today. http://cvote.it/2zX0uxO

REPLACEMENT?  If Al Franken were to resign, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, a Democrat, would likely appoint his Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith, who is so pro-abortion that she was once a lobbyist for Planned Parenthood. http://cvote.it/2BSugoT

QUOTE OF THE DAY  “If you are a Jew and you walk into East Jerusalem, your life is in danger. If you’re an Arab and you walk into West Jerusalem, there’s no problem at all, which signifies exactly why Jerusalem should be under Jewish control and not under Muslim control.” -Ben Shapiro

GOVT UNIONS  The Trump administration is calling on the Supreme Court to overrule a 40-year old precedent that lets states force public employees (like teachers) to pay fees to unions that that represent them. http://cvote.it/2nAYVns

GUN BILL  The House approved a bill to make it easier for gun owners to carry concealed weapons across state lines. Similar legislation faces a tougher time in the Senate. http://cvote.it/2nAjWPf

CULTURE 8 Models and media sexualize Christmas for “feminism.” But it’s all ok, they claim, because it “empowers” women. Katie Yoder cuts through the doublespeak in her latest column at CV. http://cvote.it/2nARNaG

NEAT   We are hard on the mainstream media. And they usually deserve it! But it was nice to The Today Show post this to their Instagram account. http://cvote.it/2nA9vev

  1. I find the Quote of the Day you posted very disturbing. For starters, the quote is downright inaccurate. The Mayor of Jerusalem is Jewish, and it would appear that the City Council is predominantly staffed by people who are Jewish.

Do people who live in Israel who are not Jewish have democratic rights? Should the “control” of the Jerusalem be the democratically-elected mayor and city council, or should control be given to people based on their religious beliefs?

Shapiro’s quote is a sad indictment of the apartheid taking place in Israeli-controlled territories. All people have democratic rights, period. That is the Catholic stance to take.
