BREAKING: religious liberty this week?

3

Politico just announced the breaking news…

According to reports, President Trump may sign an executive order on religious liberty as soon as Thursday.

Thursday is also the National Day of Prayer…and I will be joining fellow Christian leaders in the Rose Garden at the White House representing CatholicVote.org.

You and I have been waiting for this moment.

Religious liberty is not just one among many issues. It is foundational — and absolutely critical to our schools, hospitals, and charities. In fact, it is critical to the future of America, for freedom, rightly understood, cannot survive without the foundation of religious liberty.

Each day brings another attack on our religious liberty. Just this week, the ACLU sued a Catholic hospital for not performing a surgery for a transgendered person. Small business owners across the country are being forced to close their doors because of their beliefs. It’s because of these imminent threats that we’ve lobbied the White House, organized petitions, calls, videos and more calling for critical protections for people of faith.

You may recall we even secured a personal commitment from candidate Trump specifically focused on religious liberty during the campaign last year.

If reports prove true, our persistence may soon bear fruit…

As Politico reports:

Pence and a small team of conservative allies quickly began working behind the scenes …and in recent weeks have ratcheted up the pressure on Trump to sign it. The new draft is being tightly held, but one influential conservative who saw the text said it hasn’t been dialed back much—if at all—since the February leak. “The language is very, very strong,” the source said.

This is amazing news!!!

There will be a lot of people at the White House on Thursday.

I doubt I will be able to speak directly to the President. But if I do, I hope to deliver a big thank you on behalf of all of you.

I ask you to keep this effort in your prayers this week.

And, as always, please continue to pray for our President, and all political leaders.

  1. With hundreds of different religions in the USA, you can bet this edict will open a Pandoras’s Box. Get ready for some ugly tit for tat and not just a few trips to court.

  2. I have always agreed… religious liberty should mirror American freedom. St. John Paul frequently used the word “ecumenism” when speaking fondly of other religions. However, I have concerns when I hear the word “evangelism”. Somehow I feel those two words are mutually exclusive. One honors another’s religion while the second steals takes another religion. Is there some compromise here?

Your mention of VP Pence calls to mind that he was once a Catholic, “a born-again, evangelical Catholic.”, if anyone knows what that is? He even has the notion of attending Catholic University in DC and becoming a priest. He once said… “We just felt drawn to worship at an evangelical church.” . I assume he meant a Protestant Church?

  3. Do religious liberty fighters feel like I do… President Trump has dug himself and his supporters a very large hole? He has so much needed legislation to attend to he can ill afford to order a fishing expedition with a demand to investigate voter fraud when there is little or no evidence of any wrong doing. And, with the current Comey debacle Trump’s credibility is being seriously challenged. His efforts regarding religious liberty shows little to nothing.
