Yesterday I posted a piece noting that CBS Cleveland had put forward a misleading headline and first sentence in an article on an Indiana pizza place. The headline (yesterday) said: “Indiana Pizza Shop: We Won’t Serve Gays.” The first sentence read: “An Indiana pizza shop may be the first to publicly say it will not serve gay and lesbian customers.”
The problem was that the rest of the article made clear that these characterizations were dishonest. The people who owned the restaurant had actually said that they would serve gay customers, but they did not want to serve at a same-sex marriage.
I am happy to report that the headline and first sentence have now been corrected to give a more accurate account. This is an improvement, although if you visit the site you will see that the web address for it still says (inaccurately): “indiana-pizza-shop-we-wont-serve-gays.”
Unfortunately, the correction comes a little late, since, as Tom Peters notes, the owners of the restaurant have now received death threats.
