The Senate confirmed Callista Gingrich as U.S. ambassador to the Vatican in a 70-23 vote. Her husband is former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich, 51, is a former House Republican aide who is married to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga. The two met while she was working on the Agriculture Committee.
Newt Gingrich was an early supporter of President Trump’s candidacy and serves as an informal adviser to the president.
He plans to live part-time in Rome with his wife, whose title is officially Ambassador to the Holy See, the leadership of the Catholic church.
