President Trump visited House Republican Whip Steve Scalise in the hospital following the attempted massacre at the GOP congressional baseball practice shooting. Heroic members of the Capitol Police were also shot but were able to stop the shooter.
Trump arrived at MedStar Washington Hospital around 8:40 p.m., according to a pool report. Melania Trump accompanied her husband. White House staff members carried flowers. They left around 9:10 pm.
One other victim was treated at MedStar, and others were taken to nearby hospitals, including George Washington University Hospital where the shooter, John Hodgkinson, later died.
Scalise remains in critical condition, MedStar Washington said in a statement.
White House press secretary told reporters that Trump spoke with Scalise’s family and met with the congressman. “He entered the room, spoke with Scalise’s family, and sat by his bedside with Mrs. Trump,” Spicer said.
