LOOP: Comey testimony deflates Russia collusion narrative

FBI // Former FBI Director James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee. But after tons of hype, many liberals were disappointed that there was no smoking gun. Liberal MSNBC commentator Chris Matthews admitted that the Trump-Russia collusion theory “came apart” with Comey testimony. http://cvote.it/2rbBTjq

FBI // Here are six quick things we learned from Comey’s testimony. http://cvote.it/2rbAA42

ENGLAND // UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s decision to call for parliamentary elections has backfired. It now appears there will be a hung parliament, where no party or coalition of parties has a majority. Theresa May’s days as leader of the Conservatives appear numbered, and don’t be surprised to see another British election within 5-7 months. This likely will throw Brexit negotiations into chaos as political parties enter negotiations with each other over who will form a government. http://cvote.it/2rHsl37

BANKING // The House voted to roll back some of the more strident bank regulations which were passed after the stock market meltdown of 2008. Republican leaders noted that the strict financial regulations have decimated smaller community banks while massive “too big to fail” banks were better able to absorb the costs. (That’s the dirty secret in politics: Big corporations LOVE regulations because they put the squeeze on upstart competitors.) http://cvote.it/2rbBPQF

HEALTH CARE // Sens. Rob Portman (OH) and Shelley Moore Capito (WV) indicated that they are willing to support an Obamacare repeal bill that phases out Obamacare’s expansion of Medicaid. Under the plan floated, the Medicaid expansion dollars would start declining in 2020 and be phased out within 7 years. Getting the support of these two Senators is seen as critical to getting the 50 votes needed to pass a (partial) repeal of Obamacare. http://cvote.it/2rc2i0C

CLIMATE CHANGE // “Here is the question: Might a layperson who accepted those general principles, and even the authority of the ‘scientific consensus’ as well, think it a good idea for the U.S. to withdraw from the Paris accord?” asks Professor Michael Pakaluk in his article “Trump and Laudato Si.” http://cvote.it/2rbISc5

  1. Were you watching the same hearings I was? Comey repeatedly said he couldn’t discuss any details of possible collusion in an open setting. He said this over and over and over again. He even offered a new revelation: he couldn’t even openly discuss why AG Sessions has had to recuse himself from ongoing investigations.

The fact that your takeaway from this is evidence pointing away from collusion is sadly not surprising for a website that focuses on “liberal disappointment.”

  2. The Republican president is either a traitor, criminal, mentally ill, and/or too stupid and incompetent to do the job. Congressional Republicans know this, but are too afraid of their base to say or do anything publicly.

I question whether writers like Josh actually believe what they write, or just parrot whatever right-wing talking point they’re supposed to say because they’re more interested in fighting with liberals.

There is a need for courageous conservatives these days, ones who would put the safety, strength, and unity of the country over their lust for power and hatred of domestic enemies. Sadly, you won’t find those here.
