PROTECT HEALTH CARE WORKERS  The U.S. Bishops issued a statement encouraging Congress to enact legislation to ensure that health care workers do not have to participate in abortions. “Increasing and fierce attacks on conscience rights regarding abortion cry out for an immediate remedy. Nurses and other health care providers and institutions are being forced to choose between participating in abortions or leaving health care altogether,” said Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Archbishop Joseph Kurtz. http://cvote.it/2tm1vR1

PRO-LIFE CATHOLIC IN TROUBLE  The National Catholic Register profiles the election in Illinois’ 3rd District. The abortion lobby is spending over a million dollars to unseat Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-IL, one of the very last pro-life Democrats left. The Register noted that pro-life groups like the Susan B. Anthony List and CatholicVote were involved. “I can’t help but wonder: Where is the Catholic left?” asked Joshua Mercer, Political Director of CatholicVote. “All these pro-life Catholic liberals? RELIGION IN PUBLIC LIFE  A French court has ordered that a cross and statue of Pope John Paul II must be removed from public land. The town of Ploërmel has sold the sculpture so it can be displayed on church property. http://cvote.it/2thZWnm 

U.S. CATHOLIC REACTION TO POPE  According to a new poll from Pew Research, 84% of American Catholics say they have a favorable view of Pope Francis. But there are signs that American Catholics are less enamored with him. The poll finds that just 37% of Catholic Republicans think Pope Francis is a “major change for the better” — a big decline from 60% four years ago. http://cvote.it/2tlCup0
