ANTI-CATHOLICISM?  Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-WI, is blocking judicial nominee Gordon Giampietro over “grave reservations about his qualifications.” LGBT groups are attacking Giampietro for his religious opposition to redefining marriage. The Republican senator from Wisconsin pushed back at his Democratic colleague. “Her initial opposition, I hate to say it but let’s say it plainly, I fear is because he’s a person of faith. On top of it, now she’s smearing a really good man,” said Sen. Ron Johnson, R-WI. READ
ADOPTION FREEDOM  Catholic bishops and other religious leaders called for national legislation to prevent government from discriminating against religious child-welfare providers.  “Keeping kids first involves protecting the birth mother’s choice to place the child with the family she feels is best,” the faith leaders wrote in a letter to House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady. READ

Giampietro has clearly stated the Lawrence v. Texas decision was wrong. Given that the Catholic Church calls for treating gay people with compassion, I have a hard time understanding how making gay people criminals for being in a relationship is compassionate. In fact, it seems the opposite.
Giampietro has clearly stated that “diversity” leads to relaxed moral and intellectual standards. This is obviously not a Catholic position.
Since these are direct statements that Baldwin is citing, it doesn’t seem like Giampietro is being attached for his Catholic faith, as these actions and statements are not Catholic.
