HEALTH CARE // Senate Republicans thought they had it. Vice President Mike Pence was summoned to the Senate in case they needed him for a tie-breaking vote. But Pence ended up spending an hour on the Senate floor trying to convince McCain to vote for the ‘skinny repeal’ bill. It didn’t work. McCain cast a dramatic third GOP vote to defeat the skinny repeal of Obamacare. It was a major defeat for Senate Majority McConnell. NOTE: The skinny repeal was an amendment. That means the original bill is still alive. And if (big if) McConnell can find legislation to get that elusive 50th vote, he can bring it to the floor and call for another vote. http://cvote.it/2tIxEOA
HEALTH CARE // Democrats have been clamoring for single payer government run health care for years. So Republican Senator Steve Daines of Montana called their bluff and pushed for a vote on the proposal. All 52 Republicans and 5 Democrats voted against the measure. Get this: Not a single Democrat voted in favor of the plan, despite the fact that 60% of House Democrats have cosponsored the legislation. The other 43 Democratic senators voted “Present.” http://cvote.it/2v4B7KF
LIFE // Remember when the City of St. Louis passed legislation to make their city a “sanctuary city” for abortion? That legislation would have prevented Catholic schools from firing teachers who became abortion activists. Well, the Missouri Legislature passed legislation that overturns those actions. What’s more, the pro-life bill also adds additional pro-life measures like mandatory inspections of abortion facilities. Gov. Eric Greitens signed the bill into law. http://cvote.it/2tHXaU2
WHITE HOUSE // Newly-hired White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci started a war in the West Wing with his expletive-filled rant to a New Yorker reporter. Scaramucci blamed the numerous leaks coming from the White House on White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. Scaramucci said extremely vulgar and nasty things about both Priebus and White House Senior Adviser Steve Bannon. http://cvote.it/2tIsS3w
POLITICS // Young, female, and pro-Trump? Christianity Today notes: “In last year’s election, 73 percent of white evangelical women under 35 voted for Trump compared to 60 percent of white evangelical men of the same age.” http://cvote.it/2tHfvRg
SPORTS // No shock here: A poll found that protests over the national anthem were the top reason by NFL fans for watching fewer games last year. http://cvote.it/2tHlrJL

QUOTE // “Augustine said it’s no use whining about the times, because we are the times. Our actions matter. Our choices matter. Our lives matter. It’s through us that God acts in society and the Gospel of Jesus Christ is carried forward. So we need to own that mission. And only when we do, will anything change for the better.” -Archbishop Charles Chaput, What’s Next: Catholics, America, and a World Made New, address at the Napa Institute. http://cvote.it/2tHDPT2
