Pope Francis Urges Bishops to Practice “Eucharistic Coherence”

John-Henry Westen of LifeSiteNews notes that Pope Francis has recently urged Argentinian bishops to follow the Aparecida Document as “guidelines we need for this time in history”. The document, among other things, says:

“…We should commit ourselves to ‘eucharistic coherence’, that is, we should be conscious that people cannot receive holy communion and at the same time act or speak against the commandments, in particular when abortion, euthanasia, and other serious crimes against life and family are facilitated.  This responsibility applies particularly to legislators, governors, and health professionals.”

“Eucharistic coherence.” I like that phrase.

Some large outlets like Breitbart have picked up on this story so I continue to see it popping up on friends’ news feeds. The connection is not as strong as Breitbart and some folks wants to make it, but the story does reinforce something we all knew: the pope is Catholic when it comes to Communion and pro-abortion politicians.

  1. Christine says:

It saddens me to think many are receiving Our Lord and Savior’s true body and blood under serious sin.

1385 To respond to this invitation we must prepare ourselves for so great and so holy a moment. St. Paul urges us to examine our conscience: “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself.”218 Anyone conscious of a grave sin must receive the sacrament of Reconciliation before coming to communion.

Go to the follow website and become informed (Catchism of the Catholic Church) this doctrine has never changed, people’s hearts have.

Everyone has a choice, they are free to go to communion but the Faithful want all people to go to Heaven. If your child were playing with fire and could burn down the house, wouldn’t you want to stop them from doing it. Like I said you are free to do what you want, you know if you are receiving unworthily. Many people do not go to Reconcilliation before receiving, they are just as guilty. The Confession lines use to be huge, now days, it’s very short. People do not know their souls are in danger of eternal death. “Let those who have ears hear” . Grace enters the soul through the Sacraments, Mortal sin is the emptying of the soul of all grace. No grace, no heaven.

People have the choice, they face the consequences. We can only inform them and let them make the choice.

Our politicians who choose to go to communion with grave sin on their souls make the choice. They are however setting a poor example to others.

Pope Francis, while he was Cardinal, had the opportunity to see this Eucharistic Miracle. He knows of the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

May God bless you and bring you peace. Happy Advent Season (a time to prepare for Our Lord’s coming at Christmas)
